Prof. S Balaram is an internationally reputed designer and author with over four decades of teaching experience. He was the Founder Dean at D J Academy of Design and Emeritus professor of CEPT University, India. He has held top positions at the National Institute of Design including Chairman of Education and Governor. He founded the Craft Development Institute in Kashmir for the Government of India. Many of his designs have been produced and acclaimed. He has four patents to his credit. His numerous awards include – the Ron Mace international award for Universal Design, the Helen Keller award for outstanding contribution for people with disabilities, the UNIDO-ICSID award for Design for Development and an honorary Fellowship of Society of Industrial Designers of India for life time contribution.He has been invited to speak at various international and national forums. One of the most significant international meetings organized by him was the ‘UNIDO-ICSID meeting on Design for Development’, the first such meeting to be held in a developing country. He was the first to champion the term ‘majority world’ to replace the derogatory ‘developing world’. Apart from the vast number of stories, articles and essays in journals, he has published books such as- ‘Thinking Design’ (second edition);’Design quotes’ and sections in ‘Britannica Encyclopedia, ’Universal Design Handbook(second edition)’ and ‘Teaching Universal Design’. He was on the advisory board of ‘Design Issues’ a journal of international repute. He was one of the keynote speakers at the Second IAUD conference 2006, Kyoto and third IAUD conference at Hamamatsu 2010.
Jay Menon, formerly Senior Professor & Head of Communication Design, DJ Academy of Design, Coimbatore, is a postgraduate from Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, London. He has over 30 years of editorial and design experience working with main stream publishing and corporate communication across print and new media. He has over 150 cartoons to his credit, which have been published in The Hindu and Madras Musings. Interviews and features on his work have appeared in The Hindu, Business Line, New Indian Express, Industrial Economist and British Council’s Connect. He is a recipient of the All India Kodak Award for Photographic Excellence (1987) and the Charles Wallace Award (1999) for Post-graduate Studies in Design in the UK. Many of his works have won national level awards for publication and corporate communication design. Menon has taught at the University of Madras, Asian College of Journalism and National Institute of Design (NID). He is Founder and Principal Consultant at Grantha Consulting, a company dedicated to book design and corporate communications. Jay Menon’s areas of special interest are typography, linguistics, publication design and experiential design.
Dinesh is an industrial designer and a specialist in Plastic mold technology. He has more than 8 years of experience in this field. He worked with Sunray design at Chennai and later Kaalo design at Chennai. Currently he is runs his own design firm. Founder & Head of Lemorian Design Experience.
Varun Manoharan is a communication designer by profession, currently the founder of the firm named 'By Mistake'. Prior to this, he has worked with Lemon Design, Pune for 5 years at various experience levels and left the company as senior graphic designer. He has to his recent credits the branding for this college Aram and has worked on brands like Bookmyshow and Park Avenue in the past. Today his interest towards sustainability & responsible design drives him to work with non-profits, social startups and native cultures in order to apply Design for social and cultural change.
A.G Rao was the Former Head and Adjunct Professor at IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay. He is an internationally renowed industrial designer and served as a UNESCO Fellow at M.I.T ( Cambridge, Massachussets) and other places studying creativity in 1980. He has been teaching in IDC, IIT Bombay from 1970 and has guided over 150 M.Des projects. He designed the electronic voting machine for BEL and more than 20 products for companies like Crompton, Siemens, Thermax, L&T and Bamboo toolkit for UNDP. He is the Founder Member of the M.Des Programme at IDC. He was invited for talks on Design and Bamboo in Bali, Costa Rica, Singapore, Hong Kong, Brazil, Mexico, U.S.A and Europe. He atarted the Colour Fly Design Studios for the Meso group. He has conducted several workshops on Design, Creativity ,product Innovation, Experiential learning and Bamboo craft for different groups like school children, designers and engineers in companies like Honeywell, Whirlpool International, NTU Singapore, Hyperwerk, basel, Switzerland. His positions held in the past include D.L.Shah Chair for innovation, Hon. Director, Boroplast.pvt.ltd, President’s Nominee for Faculty Selections,IIT Guwahati. He is the Managing Director of A.G.Bambu Style pvt.ltd (Started under SINE, IIT Bombay).
Dr. Vinod Vidwans is a Professor and Controller of Examinations at the FLAME University, Pune. Before joining FLAME University, he was a Senior Designer -faculty at National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad. The `Times of India’ newspaper is (re-) designed under his guidance when he was working at NID.
He inherits Vedic and Indic knowledge tradition and currently engaged in research on various Indic themes. He has designed and developed a Creative Intelligent Expert System for Indian Music. This creative software system uses principles of artificial intelligence (AI).
In 2017-18, he has designed and made a new musical instrument called `Bharat Veena’ based on the two thousand year old theory of `Shrutis’ (microtones) from Bharata’s Natyashastra.
He carries more than thirty years of professional and research experience. While working in the industry, he designed and developed computer literacy program titled `COMPLIT’. Presently this program is renamed as MS-CIT and has now more than five million users.
He has also designed and developed Sharada multilingual technology for Indian languages.
Dr. Vidwans is a cognitive philosopher, a designer and a portrait painter. He has done his Ph. D in Cognitive Philosophy and Master of Design from Indian Institute of Technology, Powai, Mumbai. He holds a Post-Graduate Degree in Fine Arts from Nagpur University where he topped.
NCERT invited Dr. Vidwans to become a member of the curriculum development committee for Graphic Design. Under this assignment he has contributed in writing a text book on Graphic Design for Standard XI and Standard XII.
Recently, he has been invited by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi, as a member of the Board of Studies for School of Visual & Performing Arts as well as an advisor for their Doctoral Program.

Rajkumar Samuel is a Senior Photographer working for Deccan Chronicle newspaper based in Bangalore. After completing his bachelor's degree of Science in Visual Communication with dual specializations in Photography and Advertising, he started his career as a copy writer in an Ad Agency. His undying passion for photography lured him into the world of media and journalism, he emerged as a Photo-journalist.
He became a Staff Photojournalist when National Tamil Daily Dinamalar recruited him in year 2000. After his long stint with Dinamalar working across Tamil Nadu and Kerala, he then moved to Times of India's Bangalore Mirror in Bangalore. For more than a decade he works as a staffer with Deccan Chronicle, Bangalore Edition. He has set his own bench-mark with spectacular news photographs in aviation, sports, wildlife, and politics for more than 18 years working for newspapers and magazines. Known widely for his shattering high tensile action and high speed photography, he is an accomplished Sports and Aviation Photographer, highly recognized for his work.
His photographs have also been widely published in many international magazines, journals and websites on numerous assignments of varied subjects. Samuel has won lots of accolades, awards and recognition. Notably, He is the only Indian so far to have won the International Aviation Photo Contest, held by Aviation Week and Space Technology, USA, in 2013. Jesen is a professional artist and a sculptor. He is an M.F.A Graduate from the Government Fine Arts College, Chennai. He was a former faculty at the Kumbakonam Fine arts College and later in the Department of Visual Communication and Animation. He is a specialist in Ceramic Design and Sculpture. He has a harcore experience as a professional sculptor in varied mediums such as Ceramic, Clay, Plaster of Paris, Fibreglass and Terracotta. Jesen was awarded The Best Outgoing Student in 2008 and 2010 by Nunn Kali Kuzhu at Chennai. His sculptures attract various folks of life throughout South India and some of his phenomenal works can be seen at the Madurai Tamil Sangam and a unique collection of sculptures at Dhakshinachithra, Chennai. He has made his mark in several art camps such as Terracotta Camp in Rural University of Gandhigramam, Sand sculpture camp at Chennai, Sculpture camp at American college, Anna University …etc. He has also been a co-worker of the world’s renowned Sculptor Andrew Logan.
Neha is a textile designer, a graduate of NID. She has done her Masters in strategic design from Politecnico di Milano, Italy, on full scholarship, She has done her MA Design for Textile Futures, one year programme at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, University of the Arts, London, UK. She has done solo and group art exhibitions across India and also abroad. She has been a visiting faculty and a jury member in design and art schools across India.
She was working as a textile designer with Bhilwara Group(BMD), Noida, and also with Color and Trim Stylist with Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), Gurgaon. Her articles and works have been published in various magazines, newspapers, online channels and websites.
Deepthi pursued a degree in Architecture before venturing into product design. Since then, she has been curious about different applications of design, and worked in lighting, furniture, interior, packaging, communication design to name a few. She co-founded Vichithram to indulge in her interests in all things design building a team of design researchers, writers and other artists, bringing a multi-disciplinary approach to strategy, design and production. She is passionate about teaching and has been a visiting faculty in RVS, Coimbatore and BMS, Bangalore, introducing design basics to students of Architecture.
Parimal graduated from D J Academy of Design in 2012 as a Communication Designer. After his graduation, he worked for 2 years at Codesign, a Gurgaon based communication design studio. In 2015 he joined ITF. During his 2 years of tenure at ITF, he worked on multiple projects; helping ITF with retail as well as custom projects. He is now working in Ahmedabad as an independent designer. Parimal has been a visiting faculty for the courses Visual Identity and Letter design at NID Ahmedabad and DJ Academy of design.
Vaibhav Kumaresh is an animation film maker and is currently Founder, Director at Vaibhav Studios, Mumbai. Founded in 2003, the studio has created some of India’s favourite animated content in the field of TV commercials and channel promos: the Amaron Battery ad campaign, Chulbuli for Clinic Plus, Buladi’s AIDS awareness campaign for the West Bengal government, the Vodafone Zumis, Simpoo the angry Sardaar math teacher on Channel [V] and Lamput the globally acclaimed micro short series for Cartoon Network to name a few. The studio is currently working on its maiden feature film titled Return of the Jungle.
A Fine Arts graduate, Vaibhav studied animation film making at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. He is an active committee member of TASI: The Animation Society of India and is currently the Hon Secretary of the society. Vaibhav also teaches animation and is a visiting faculty at various animation and design schools across India.
An alumnus (1998) and former Member of the Faculty of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, Prosenjit has served as Director of Special Projects, with Toonz Animation India (2002- 2009) creating award-winning animation properties for international broadcasters. His short films have been showcased at prestigious film festivals in over 15 countries, winning several international awards and nominations.
Regularly invited as a speaker at prestigious festivals and forums that include, TEDx, Anifest India, Hamburg Film Festival, Asifa India amongst many others, he is also a visiting faculty at premier Design Schools that include NID, MIT Pune, DJ academy of Design, Symbiosis Institute of Design, Pearl Academy, SRFTI Kolkata, IIT Bombay, MICA Ahmedabad and CEPT University.
Presently his projects include Story & Screenwriting for Animation Cinema and Television, Product Development for Animation Studios, Concept Art, Illustration, Stop motion Animation, Short films and Voice direction. He also conducts story and design workshops for Children and Specialized Workshops for Students, Corporates and Creative professionals. Currently he is working on an Animated Feature Film (Theatrical) in Hindi, as Writer and Director, slated for a 2019 release.
